Naphthalene Groundwater Remediation at a Remote Pipeline Release, Little Durbin Creek, SC

A pipeline release occurred in a rural, forested area of South Carolina, and subsequent site investigation revealed elevated levels of naphthalene in the groundwater. Due to the remoteness of the release site and limited accessibility, the BIOX Process was chosen to remediate the release.

Pretreatment sampling results showed Naphthalene at concentrations ranging from 0.0447 mg/l at MW-4 to 0.0073 mg/l at MW-5. Due to the heavily wooded nature of the treatment area, the injection equipment was set up over 300 feet from the treatment area, and water was pumped from a nearby creek for use in mixing the BIOX formulation. A single treatment was conducted utilizing our patented soft advance fluid jetting system.

Post treatment samples were collected after the treatment to evaluate the effectiveness of the remedial activities. The following table shows the pre and post treatment naphthalene results in mg/l. The South Carolina DHEC subsequently issued a No Further Action (NFA) letter for the treatment area.
