LNAPL Pilot Study at a Chemical Plant, Akron, OH

LNAPL Pilot Study at a Chemical Plant, Akron, OH

Light, non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) were present at the site with thicknesses in groundwater monitoring wells ranging from 0.13 feet to 1.22 feet. A pilot test was conducted at the site to evaluate the effectiveness of the BIOX Process in reducing LNAPLs. Two 400 SF areas encompassing the wells were treated with the BIOX formulation utilizing direct push technology. Prior to treatment, each of the three wells was gauged for the presence of LNAPLs.

Post treatment well gauging was conducted 45 days after the BIOX treatment. The pre and post well gauging measurements are depicted in the following table. In addition to the reductions in the thickness of the LNAPLs, dissolved BTEX concentrations showed significant reductions ranging from 20% to 92% in all wells within the treatment area.
